dear caleb // week thirteen

Dear Caleb,

Not yet three months old and you've decided to start teething!  Your days are filled with lots of wet drooling and countless hours of trying your hardest to fit those big ol' fists of yours in that teeny tiny mouth.  You melt every time mama or daddy rub your lower gums.

We've tried a few teething toys, you really like the beads and leather that mama made you, but your mouth isn't quite big enough yet to get the beads where you want them!  For now we'll take the extra cuddles you're enjoying and hope that those teeth stay hidden for just a bit longer!

love you always,
mama & daddy

dear caleb // week twelve

Dear Caleb,

This week you've been all about your toys!  You've started to explore just about anything you can get your hands on, though you haven't quite mastered control of your hands and get frustrated when you can't reach or push something just out of your reach.

We built you a little tripod to hang some toys for and you especially like the bell.  You try to swat at it with your hands, but much prefer to use your feet.  Your new tripod lets us hang just about anything you're interested in and change them out as your interests change.  You enjoy trying to grab at the links as well as a puzzle ball Nana made you.

Though Maggie is quite jealous of the attention we give you, she loves to cuddle in next to you while you play.  She really is your protector, and you don't mind one bit!

We love spending our evenings on the floor with you playing and exploring!

love you always,
mama & daddy

dear caleb // week eleven

Dear Caleb,

This weekend while visiting your grandparents, you laughed!  And not just a little laugh, but a big hearty giggle.  You looked your grandpa in the eyes and gave him the biggest smile and started to giggle.  The sound of your adorable little voice brought everyone to the table to witness this lovely exchange.  None of us could help but join in.  You've laughed a bit for mama and daddy, but this was your first time sharing these glorious giggles with others!

Little one, you are so, so loved.  You were loved long before you laughed, but these little bits of your personality bring so much joy to the many family and friends who love you so dear.

love you always,
mama & daddy

dear caleb // week ten

Dear Caleb,

You rolled over!!  Not once, not twice, but three times!!!  Mama laid you on the floor for some tummy time and went to open the windows, when I came back, you were on your back.  Neither daddy or I noticed, so we rolled you onto your belly again, but turned our backs to check out the freshly painted door when you decided to do it again!  We decided to try one more time to catch it and this time we grabbed the camera.  And you did it!  You rolled over like there was nothing to it!  We are so incredibly proud of you and love watching you explore and learn new things!

video

Unfortunately, because we've never used the video feature on our camera we didn't have the lighting set up correctly so the only video we got is dark and grainy.  I tried nearly 50 times throughout the next week to catch it again, but alas you were not interested in performing!  Though it's not perfect, I love that this little bit of who you are right now was captured on camera and it will be fun to look back and watch these 10 seconds of you, years from now!!

Keep growing and learning little buddy!

love you always,
mama & daddy

diy photo announcements.

In an attempt to save money and resources, we opted to announce Caleb's arrival via our blog, Facebook, and email.  We considered sending birth announcements after receiving numerous coupons in the mail for free ones, however the cost of shipping and postage didn't seem worth it.  Also, by the time we received the announcements and found the time to address, stamp, and mail them, Caleb would have been a month or more old!  And let's be honest, how long do people actually hold on to such announcements?  A month?  If you're like me, they might stay on your fridge until Christmas, but then what?  They go straight into the trash!  How can I justify spending loads of money on a piece of card-stock that someone is just going to throw away!?

Anyways, at 7 weeks old, a dear friend of my was generous enough to snap some family photos of us during a visit.  They turned out beautifully and I feel in love with this photo instantly.

It's such an amazing representation of our little family right now and I wanted so badly to share it with everyone.  Once again I posted it on here and Facebook, but I realized this time that we have a few family and friends who do not have access to Facebook and rarely use internet in general.  I decided that it was worth printing some "announcements" for these dear friends and sharing this awesome photo with them.

So, here's my super simple "announcement"....

First I opened the photo in Photoshop Elements.  Then I added the text "hello."  I saved it as a .jpg and uploaded it onto Walgreens one-hour printshop {and saved 33% with their deal of the day!}

I didn't even spring for card-stock, just printed them on typical photo paper.  I wrote a little personalized note on the back of each and popped them in generic business envelopes {classy, right?!}.  I did use a little washi tape to fancy them up a bit, and was sure to write "do not bend" in hopes of keeping the photos from being ruined in the mail.

Super simple and cheap, only $.60 each {$.14/photo & $.46/stamp}.  Because we only sent these to a select few friends and family (a total of 7), the entire cost was only $4.20!

Thank you Mackenzie for this amazing photo!  You're awesome, love you!

**I'm sure you could use any number of photo editing software - there are many online for free and even some available through print shops!

family of 3.

I realized recently that other than the photos taken of us at Caleb's birth, we had yet to get a photo of the three of us together!  So, when my dear friend Mackenzie happened to be in town and offered to take some photos for us, I was thrilled.  I have always adored her photography, but these turned out amazing!  Such an incredible representation of our little family and where we are right now.  Seriously, in love with each and every one of these images.

Thank you so much for these incredible photos Mackenzie, you're awesome!

dear caleb // week nine

Dear Caleb,

When you came along, our whole world changed.  Like this letter, we're rarely on time for anything these days. (I'm writing this a week late, but who cares? at least I'm writing it!)  Getting out of the house is quite the feat these days.  Doing so without forgetting something is rare.  Like the other day when I was visiting friends for the afternoon and realized that I had forgotten to put diapers in the diaper bag.  Seriously, not a single one!  Luckily these friends, who have a two year old, were able to locate the one and only little diaper in their house, on a teddy bear!

Lesson learned: never leave the house without diapers!  Diapers are now hidden in multiple compartments in both cars!

You're full of lessons for mama and daddy. Lessons of patience and perseverance when we can't seem to find what calms you.  Lessons that practice makes perfect when we can't seem to change a diaper without getting wet.  Lessons not to take ourselves so seriously when you spit-up on the bed for the tenth time this week, while giving us the best gummy grins!  Lessons of love and laughter when our heart opens just a little more each time you look us in the eyes with that big ol' smile and start to "talk" to us.

Little one you are truly amazing.  Just when we think we've learned all we can, you teach us more!

love you always,
mama & daddy
