dear caleb // month ten

Dear Caleb,

You're ten months old!!  To celebrate, I thought I'd share 10 fun facts about you.

1. You are obsessed with socks.  The minute you get in your carseat, you rip them off to play with them.  You seem to enjoy using them as a teether as well!

2.  Speaking of teeth, you currently have 3 bottom teeth and the tiniest sliver of a top tooth poking through.  Your toothy grin just keeps getting cuter!

3.  You can make an instrument out of anything!  Your current favorites are your maraca and egg shaker.

4.  Food is your favorite.  You are not at all picky - eating anything and everything we give you.  Bananas are by far your favorite, and sweet potatoes are a close second!

5.  You have the most amazing (and fast) crawl we've ever seen.  You use your left knee and your right foot to move across the floor with such speed and accuracy, it's hard for mama and daddy to keep up most days!

6.  You love being outside.  Your favorite thing to do is dig in the dirt and eat leaves and rocks.

7.  While playing outside, you and Maggie love to play tug-of-war with sticks.  She is so gentle with you, but you can sure give her a run for her money and never give up.

8.  Your first word was "sit."  You think it's Maggie's name and call for her often.

9.  No matter what, a bath will cheer you up.  You love to splash and play and have begun to lean over and drink the water!

10.  You learned to clap your hands and love to play "patty-cake", and just this week you learned to sign for "more" banana at breakfast!!

It's so fun to watch you learn and grow.  Everything is so new to you and it's amazing to get to experience this world in a whole new way with you!

love you forever,
mama & daddy

I've been planning to have a friend take some family photos, but the timing hasn't worked out, so the other day I got out the tripod and snapped a few in our new room.  Love our little family!

Easter 2014

We got all dressed up for our first Easter as a family of 3, but these are the only pictures we were able to get!

After spending the morning at church, we headed out to the farm for family dinner.

The weather was perfect!  We spent much of the day outside exploring!

Caleb even got his first ride on the gator with Papaw and Nana!

summer goals + nature love

Summer goals 2014:
cut down trees
build chicken coop
build deck

This weekend, my parents came to help us cut down a few trees that we've been meaning to take care of for quite a while.  One tree in particular was at the top of our priority list as it needs cut down before we can start to build our deck.

It didn't take long to cut down and clean up the trees.  The weather was perfect for a bonfire to burn all the brush, so we spent much of the afternoon in the back yard slowly feeding the fire and exploring with Caleb.

Thankful for parents who are willing to help us with such tasks and enjoy spending the day outside with us!!  Thanks Mom & Dad!!! XOXO

baby moccasin giveaway!

As I was cleaning up in my studio yesterday, I came across these adorable little moccasins I made over winter.  These are a prototype of the moccasins I made for my little guy but have decided not to list these in the shop.

So, in the spirit of Spring Cleaning, I've decided to give them away!

Head over to my Facebook page to learn more!

dear caleb // nine months

20 lbs 8oz // 29 inches

Dear Caleb,

Once again it seems like you've changed over night.  This week, while battling an awful cold, we spent countless hours cuddling.  You seemed to cling to me with every part of your being.  Your legs wrapped around my waist now grip and help hold you up.  Your arms reach for and wrap around my neck for the most amazing hug.  And when we rock, your eyes hold on tight.  When it's time to put you down, your big brown eyes swell with giant tears of longing...longing to spend every moment in the safety of mama's (or daddy's) arms.

Most nights we're able to lay you down happy but slightly awake and you put yourself to sleep within minutes.  If you do fuss (which usually happens around 10pm when mama and daddy are climbing into bed), your daddy loves to scoop you up and rock you back to sleep, enjoying one last snuggle before heading to bed himself.  You sleep soundly for nearly 12 hours every night and continue to take two naps throughout the day  Must be all that growing you're doing!  At 9 months old, you're a healthy 20.5 lbs and 29 inches long!

While out and about, you shy away from strangers and cling to mama or daddy.  You recognize us among a crowd and rarely allow others to hold you.  Honestly, we love it!  We love that you're ours, and that you know us, that you feel safe when you're in our arms.  We love that you love us just as much as we love you!

Little one you're so amazing, and each day we are in awe of the little man you are and feel so lucky to be your parents!

love you forever,
mama & daddy

chicks are here!

We did it!  We finally added chicks to our little homestead.  We've been dreaming about this for months!

We got a variety of breeds to hopefully make our flock a little diverse.  There are 6 Tetra Tint Pullets (a cross between Rhode Island Red Male & White Leghorn Female) three are dark and three are light.  The other 3 are Ameraucana.  The Ameraucana are known for laying Easter eggs, but they are unsexed so we may end up with a rooster!

They are a little over a week old and we have a temporary home set up for them in the kitchen.  They'll spend the next month or so there until they have all their feathers.  Then they'll be re-located to the backyard where we plan to create a small chicken run for them to roam.  Now the pressure is on to get that chicken coop finished!

In a few short months we'll have our very own free range, organic eggs....right in our backyard!!
